We start our journey towards the City of Santarém, the capital of Gothic architecture. Our first stop will be at the Garden of Portas do Sol, where we find traces of the ancient Moorish castle. Its viewpoint gives us astonishing views of the Tagus River and the Ribatejo plains.

We continue to Almourol Castle. This picturesque monument is situated on a small rocky island in the middle of the Tagus River. The Castle evokes the early days of the Kingdom of Portugal and the Order of the Templars. Here you will take a small boat journey to the entrance of this castle, where you will be able to explore the fortifications and feel like a Templar Knight on the lookout.

After this unique experience, we head to the city of Tomar, the former headquarters of the Templar Order. A city of great artistic and cultural richness, where you will take a lunch break.

Fish, steak, vegan,  you name it! Our guides will assist you to choose the best restaurant, where you will enjoy traditional Portuguese food while tasting great wine and finishing the meal with delicious pastries.

After lunch, we will explore the historical center of Tomar, where we will find the Church of Saint João Batista and the Town Hall building.

Visiting Tomar is to breathe Templar history and its legacy. So our day wouldn’t be complete without a visit to the Templar castle and discovering the monumental work of the Convent of Christ. Well, it is our main stop after all! Let yourself be enchanted by one of the most important Renaissance works in Portugal and breathe in Portuguese culture while discovering the famous “Janela Manuelina”.

And, for the cherry on top of the cake, we will take a 15-minute drive to a lesser-known location, the Pegões Aqueduct. This unknown monument will be a beautiful surprise and a great way to finish our adventure!
