Mafra-Queluz Tour (The Unknown)

Pick up at your accommodation.

History, royal palaces, neverending libraries, military fortifications, fisherman villages and so much more! If you are curious to get to know Portugal to its core, this is the tour for you.

This tour is about passion. Exuberance but also modesty. Mafra-Queluz is history, discovery, and Portugal Unknown. Which leads us to our first stop. The Queluz National Palace.

Inspired by the Versailles Palace in Paris, this luxurious royal residence spans the history of Portugal during the fourth and last dynasty of our monarchy. During this visit, you will feel like royalty while noticing the evolution of tastes and styles of the time in each room. At the end of your visit, you will be able to explore the breathtaking gardens of the palace where theater, gondola rides, masquerade balls, and much more used to happen.

After this visit, we head into the countryside and visit a village that seems lost in time. Here we dive into our past, our roots. Here we understand how some of our grandparents lived, the Portuguese grandparents who grew up in rural areas in the interior of Portugal before moving to the cities.

Having finished this short stroll through the village we are already very close to the town of Mafra. So we head towards the immense palace. The Palace/Convent of Mafra has 4,700 doors and windows, 1,200 hundred rooms, and over 30,000 thousand books in the library. By its magnitude, you can only imagine the grandiosity of its beauty.

After the remarkable palace, we head to the town of Ericeira, where we will take a lunch break. Fish, steak, vegan,  you name it! Our guides will assist you to choose the best restaurant, where you will enjoy traditional Portuguese food while tasting great wines and finishing the meal with delicious pastries.

After exploring Ericeira, the next stop will take us back in time, to the battlefield. Here you will be able to see how, in extreme urgency and under a lot of pressure, the Portuguese military were able to build small fortifications with the little material they had, to set up a defensive line that was extremely important during the French invasions.

From here we’ll explore the coastal area and small towns on the edge of the Atlantic where we’ll stop to contemplate all of its natural beauty.

And what better place to end our day, than at the end of the world? Our last stop will be Cabo da Roca, the westernmost point of Continental Europe. “Here, where the land ends and the ocean begins” you will enjoy a viewpoint over the Atlantic Ocean that will leave you speechless.

From the end of the world to your accommodation it is! After a day full of history, royal palaces, neverending libraries… we will take you to your royal living quarters.
