This was an amazing tour the palace grounds were so beautiful and the area of Cascais was so vibrant, filled with pubs, restaurants, shops and of course the beach. Our tour guide, Paulo Girao was fantastic, he was very informative and we highly recommend you ask for him. This tour is a definite for anyone going to Portugal!

January 2025

Don't hesitate to book a private day tour with Portugal Unknown Tours. We booked the tour to see the Queluz Palace. the Palacio National de Mafra, and Ericeira. Our guide, Joao, was excellent. He made our day fun and interesting because he is so knowledgeable and personable. He led us through each palace pointing out the most interesting details and fun facts. When we stoped for lunch in Ericeria (the Surf Mecca), we asked him to join us because we were enjoying his company and hoped to rely on his recommendations of what to order. It ended up being one of our favorite meals in Portugal!

It was very well-organised and easy and our tour guide Jose was very knowledgeable and great to be around!
I liked that I got picked up at my hotel and the tour was with a car. Other tours seem to use mini vans and tell people to come to a meeting point somewhere in town, which can be difficult to get to.
The places we visited were incredible and we’ve managed to cover so much in one day! I couldn’t have done this on my own.
Jose found the right balance between giving us all of the history and information and letting us explore on our own. I think it was perfect as sometimes tours can feel like a university lecture, rather than a fun experience. Our experience with Jose was great!
I would recommend this tour to everyone!!

We had a fabulous private day tour (2 couples) visiting Tomar, Nazaré and Õbidos with our guide, João. Each of the towns was unique and picturesque and although a bit of a distance (60-90 min) from Lisbon, very doable in a full day tour, with beautiful scenery along the way. Our lunch stop was in Nazaré and it was a seafood feast at a wonderful family owned restaurant. João did not steer us wrong in his recommendations! João was a superb guide. He was very knowledgeable and never made us feel rushed. The vehicle was very comfortable for 2 couples and João was an excellent driver. He also made an unscheduled stop in Belém so we could visit the infamous Pasteis de Belém for the original Portuguese tarts. We recommend this tour… a highlight of our trip to Portugal.

We were staying in Sintra and looking for a tour originating from there. We hit the mark by booking with Portugal Unknown. They provided us a very personal tour with just the two of us plus the guide. Our tour guide/driver Bruno was just the best! He picked us up from our hotel outside the city of Sintra in the morning and we toured with him all day returning in the early evening. He showed us the highlights of his home town of Sintra and the surrounding areas all while giving us the back stories of each site. Bruno’s love for his country is evident in his knowledge and enthusiasm with sharing its history and beauty. This tour was by far the highlight of our stay in Sintra! Best Time Ever!

Our tour with Joao was wonderful! He even accommodated our tiny toy poodle who was on the trip with us. We really enjoyed all the history and helpful tidbits about the area. The three hours sped by and we didn't get too tired. It was perfect for us to spend half the day in Lisbon on our own and half the day with Joao getting our bearings, asking questions, and learning more about the gorgeous city. I definitely recommend this experience.

Our tour guide was João Martins, he was brilliant! Very knowledgeable, attentive to your walking abilities and did everything he could to ensure you had the best experience. Excellent communications when booking. Highly recommend!
